Inhabitants of Troyan have participated in the contest for the emancipation of our people by Turkish slavery. The apostle of liberty Vasil Levski has hiiden himself many times in the town and in the Troyan monastery. Today in Troyan monastery is saved the cell-covert where Vasil Levski has led meeting of monastic revolutionary committee. In 1871 Vasil Levski, Dimitar Obshti and Angel Kanchev created local bulgarian revolutionary commitee. Vasil Levski has personally led the commitee questions. For this purpose he has travelled many times from Lovech through the town or on the direct paths from Ambaritsa peak to Karlovo.
